Security fencing erected around the perimeter of a hotel in Bury will stay, despite some safety concerns.
The Boltholt Hotel installed the security fencing, measuring five foot nine inches high, but then asked for planning permission after the event, the Bury Times reported.
A resident wrote to the council's planning committee, expressing concern that the fence was very obvious. The local added that its proximity to a road, coupled with its inflexibility, meant that someone could be trapped if an incident occurred.
Rerouting the fence further in and planting shrubs would help to create something of a protection area whilst improving its aesthetic quality, the person added.
However, planning officer Tom Beirne told the newspaper that while the concerns raised were "valid", the measures proposed would not be adopted.
"The palisade fence is acceptable on this part of Lowercroft Road, which is predominantly industrial in character."
The hotel is part of the Best Western chain.
