The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) is erecting high security fencing to protect its sea-bound boarder - which is believed to be a security threat.
More than 45km of high security fencing will be installed - with the first phase of security fencing covering 16km.
SDSC director M. Chandra Dattan told the Times of India: "The 45km coastal border of the facility has remained open and we consider it a grave risk.
"As per the recommendations of our security committee, we have taken up construction of power fencing along the coast. We also have taken up several other measures to improve security at SDSC."
The facility is also installing a high security fencing solution around a lake on the site, which will also be patrolled by security personnel.
On the sea-bound border, watch towers will be installed every 3km.
Recently, The American Thinker claimed US president Barack Obama should use more high security fencing to protect its borders.
