Residents in Penhill, Swindon, are calling for security bollards to be installed in an alleyway plagued by drivers using it as a shortcut.

According to the Swindon Advertiser, residents on Penhill Drive and Oaksey Road are risking their lives whenever they walk down a narrow snicket after cars have been seen mounting the pavement, driving down the path and parking vehicles close-by.

It is thought that the problems began when a council worker removed a lamppost which blocked vehicle access to the route.
The solution is now simple, locals say: install security bollards.

Resident Eddie Hawkins told the newspaper his dog had been hit by a car and now has concerns over the safety of his family.

"I want to get this matter resolved because, at the end of the day, it is risking my daughter, other people’s kids, people in mobility scooters and my dogs.

"It is not on, really. There could be injury, or even death, and all it takes to solve the problem is to put one or two bollards up there or for the council to move the lamppost back."

A spokesperson for Swindon council said the authority would "now be looking at the area to see where we can install a bollard or something similar to stop it (the problems) happening."
