A man who attempted to scale over high security fencing to jump off a railway bridge has been saved from a train collision.
Matt Hastie, from Bridgwater, saw the man trying to get over the security fencing to reach a railway bridge on the city's Bath Road, reported the Bridgwater Mercury.
He grabbed the man back from the security fencing just moments before a train flew past.
Mr Hastie told the newspaper: "I was driving back from the takeaway with my wife and kids when we saw the guy trying to jump over the fence.
"Instinct just took over and I ran out of the car and grabbed him and pulled him down. A train went under the bridge five minutes later so it was a close call. The guy was pretty agitated but he thanked me afterwards."
A recent report in Scotland suggested some 86 per cent of people think traffic barriers should be installed on open train crossings.
