Network Rail has changed plans to erect barbed wire-topped high security fencing in favour of installing a fencing solution which is in-keeping with existing security solutions in Teddington.
Residents near Teddington station are delighted that the rail network operator has decided to change its security fencing plans.
Speaking to the Richmond and Twickenham Times, Sheena Harold, of the Teddington Society, said: "Local people have really had their views heard. It's great to get such a good result. It was a very shortsighted decision by someone.
"The new fence will be in keeping with the area."
Vince Cable, MP for Twickenham, told the news provider: "I am pleased that after our meeting they agreed to remove the ugly fencing and return to more tasteful [metal railings]."
Network Rail has put forward a £1 billion plan to electrify 200 miles of railway in Scotland - a move which could require additional high security fencing.
