The Newlyn Harbour Commission is planning to combat illegal parking on the Cornish dock by installing a number of permanent security bollards.
Members of the organisation are aiming to take the decisive measures after looking on in dismay after a lorry was unable to access the harbour due to cars being unlawfully parked in the area.
Action had to be taken, and temporary bollards were installed, but have been deemed insufficient and steps to install more permanent barriers is now seen as the only viable option to deter drivers.
Andrew Munson, harbourmaster, told The Cornishman: "The bollards have been very effective but anyone with one ounce of common sense would know vehicles can't get through while they are parked there. The major problem is that people think they can park and quickly pop into the shop, but they don't realise the problems they cause."
Bollards are also being highlighted as the solution to stop ram-raiders attacking a cash point in Backwell, North Somerset.
