New play area fencing looks likely to be installed in a north-east playground following vandalism ahead of the summer holidays.

Mount Pleasant Avenue play area in Marske has been subjected to a great deal of damage, including the spraying of graffiti, broken fencing and safety surface.

Gazettelive.co.uk reports that the park had to be closed for three days because of the damage that was caused and the safety hazards that could be posed.

Vera Rider, chairman of Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council, told the news provider that problems caused by criminals have been a frequent occurrence of late.

"This has been happening for about two weeks now," she explained.

"The kids are targeting the safety surface - ripping it up. It is such a shame because the area is really well-used."

Oldham will also see new play area fencing following a £50,000 grant that was awarded to Limeside Friends of the Park.
