News that the £235 million Playbuilder scheme is set to freeze hundreds of planned proposals that may have involved play area fencing has been labelled a 'devastating blow' for people across north Lincolnshire.
According to thisisscunthorpe.co.uk, the area will miss out on some £600,000 of funding to revamp play areas badly in need of repair.
Some 12 parks will be affected by the cut, including ones in Winteringham, Crowle, Scunthorpe and Barton-Upon-Humber. They had been promised funding under the previous Labour government, who formulated Playbuilder.
Ashby ward councillor Andrea Davison told the news provider: "This is a devastating blow to the local community.
"Somervell Road residents actually set up a neighbourhood group to help them get a new and improved play area. This is a big blow, especially for them."
It is thought the cut, put in place to better invest in frontline services, will affect all councils in the UK in some way.
However, schemes already built, or in the process of being built, will still go ahead.
