Security fencing and steel gates are an effective means of keeping garden furniture and other outdoor valuables safe from vandals and thieves, it has been claimed.
According to M&S Home Insurance, the average garden shed contains £888 worth of valuables, while patio heaters and other outdoor property can add thousands of pounds to this figure.
With many homeowners not aware that their home insurance policies do not always cover valuables kept outdoors, it is vitally important that they are kept safe with anti-trespass measures such as high security fencing.
According to insurance prices comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, there are a few easy steps that can be taken to reduce the chances a thief will strike.
"It's the basics of garden security, really: keep your fences in a good state of repair and lock your gate when you're not using your garden. Thieves will soon give up and look for an easier target," the website said.
