A perimeter fence will be built as part of a £14 million revamp of four tower blocks in Eccles, Salford.

According to Manchester Evening News, the blocks, which were built 50 years ago, will be "completely transformed" after the development work.

Alongside perimeter fencing, improved security and a CCTV system will also be installed.

Flats will benefit from new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors and heating systems.

Colette McKune, from the City West Housing Trust, which now owns the blocks, told the news provider: "This is an exciting regeneration project that will completely transform the existing tower blocks, providing excellent quality apartments, a new sheltered housing block and a new community facility. So far the feedback has been very positive, but we will be continuing with consultation events throughout the summer. We want to make sure the design improvements to the inside and outside of the blocks and the sheltered housing scheme meet with our customers' needs."

Last month the installation of high security fencing was announced as part of a £1.63 million upgrade plan at a site in Lincolnshire.
