High security fencing will be an important part of a £1.63 million improvement plan at a travellers' site in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, it has been reported.

According to thisislincolnshire.co.uk, council planners have approved the plan to update the site. The funding will come from the Homes and Communities Agency and Lincolnshire County Council.

The plans, which will improve security and on-site facilities, will see the installation of a 2.4m high security fence and a CCTV system.

Officials said they were pleased the plan had been given the go-ahead.

Sam Turner, manager of the Gainsborough Traveller Initiative, told the news provider the site had become "rundown", adding: "Some of the families have lived on the site for many years and they are really excited about this.

"It will be wonderful for the little ones to be able to enjoy outside play too. It will enrich the quality of life for families and young people up there."

Earlier this month it was reported that a nine foot high security fence will be installed at a school playground in Hornsey after health and safety concerns.
