High security fencing is set to be part of a new plan to build a new police station in Harrogate, it has emerged.
According to the Harrogate Advertiser, in the application for the new station that has been submitted to the council, the new police station would see the installation of security fencing alongside a three-storey station and a car park.
A report by I D Planning, a consultancy firm, and commissioned by Harrogate Police, said that a modern police station was urgently needed as the current site "was built nearly 90 years ago and therefore does not meet modern policing operational requirements," the newspaper said.
If successful, Harrogate Police intend to have the station opened by 2012. Some 50 staff from other police services in North Yorkshire would be transferred in.
I D Planning's report said the proposal suited the site well, the news provider said: "The development proposal has been design and policy-led, with specific regard having been given to the character and constraints of the site and of the surrounding area."
Recently the installation of high security fencing was announced as part of a £1.63 million upgrade of a travellers' site in Lincolnshire.
