Work is about to begin on new sports fencing and pitches at a site in Bicester despite news that part of the funding could be under threat.
Around six football and rugby pitches will be created under plans announced recently, but following Developer Countryside Properties' transfer of the site to Cherwell District Council, other parts may not be introduced.
Under original proposals, the site at Kingsmere was going to feature tennis courts, an athletics track and Astroturf pitch, reports the Oxford Mail.
Alec Smith, Bicester Rugby Club's coach told the news provider that the area has been "crying out for sports pitches".
Bicester Town Football Club chairman John Clutterbuck added: "I think any improvement or extra facilities are good news for the town."
Elsewhere, Melksham will also require sports fencing after it was revealed that the town's sports club would be moving to a new campus in the coming years.
