New sports netting will be among the features of a new leisure centre that is due to open in Derbyshire over the next few weeks.

Arc Leisure Matlock cost £12 million and could be ready for the August bank holiday towards the end of the month, giving local families an opportunity to use new equipment.

For those that cannot wait that long, a preview week will also be taking place from Wednesday August 24th as the building opens its doors for the first time, reports the Derbyshire Times.

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council, councillor Geoff Stevens, told the news provider that the centre is on target.

"I'm confident local people will be impressed by Arc Leisure Matlock - it really is a fabulous building in a fabulous setting and a superb response to what Derbyshire Dales residents told us was desperately needed in this area," he explained.

Gosport will also see a new leisure centre by next summer after plans were given the go-ahead by the local borough council.
