Crash barriers will be installed close to a school in East Riding to protect children after a four-year safety campaign by residents and parents.
According to the Yorkshire Post, the traffic barriers will go up on a stretch of the A63 road, close to South Hunsley School in Melton. About 100 pupils use a roadside path to get to and from the school.
Local people have been concerned about the proximity of children to the road, on which vehicles can travel at 70mph.
The Highways Agency is now installing a pedestrian guardrail and East Riding council is diverting the path for 500 metres.
Talking to the newspaper, councillor Julie Abraham said: "Many parents of students from the west of the school have expressed their concerns to us and there is relief all round that by April their children will be so much safer when walking and cycling to and from school."
Recently, new crash barriers were installed on the A329(M) road in Wokingham to improve safety after a 23-year-old man died after colliding with a van.
