Residents in Wimbledon, Greater London, have demanded the removal of a "problem" security bollard following a series of crashes.

The latest incident involved a woman who crashed into the barrier whilst attempting to turn right on to Worple Road on February 2nd. The collision ripped off the car door as well as causing severe delays for drivers, after the road was closed for two hours whilst emergency crews cut her free from the vehicle.

Now people in the area are calling for removal of the bollards so that this type of incident does not continue to cause havoc for Wimbledon motorists.

Councillor Alan Judge, of Merton Council, told Your Local Guardian: "Merton Council takes road safety extremely seriously and is concerned at the recent incident at this junction. This junction is very busy so we have added new road markings already to highlight the presence of the traffic island and further road markings will be provided."

While residents of Wimbledon are calling for the removal of bollards, people in Bolton are asking for them to be installed after a drink driver crashed into a bowling alley.
