Gate Automation Safety
Richard Jackson, CEO of Jacksons Fencing, is calling attention to the dangers of incorrect installation that can lead to people being severely injured or killed if they become entrapped in electrically operated gates as they are automatically opened or closed.
“There is only one way to have a safe gate and that is for it to be made and installed to the current
CE regulations
and that means expert installation. Failure to exercise a duty of care may expose the specifier, client and site operator open to litigation in the event of an accident involving injury or damage to property.”
Many companies, blocks of flats and commercial premises use automatic gates for security reasons. Jackson points out that most people might not realise that incorrectly installed, they can be extremely dangerous. Injuries can include cuts, broken bones, brain injuries and amputations.
Automated gates
need two separate types of safety devices, that will reverse the gate if an obstruction is detected when opening and closing. Many older gates do not have sensing devices or guarding to prevent these types of accidents.
“There are thousands of defective and dangerous automatic gates in the UK. These gates that don’t have entrapment safety devices are tragedies waiting to happen,” added Richard Jackson. “The safety of older gates should be reviewed and replaced if necessary with a safer automatic gate that meets the new standard. When installing new gates it is equally important to use the services of a qualified expert installer, otherwise you could be leaving yourselves wide open to litigation.”
