Lockable bollards part of school's safety improvements

Lockable bollards part of school's safety improvements
Lockable security bollards will be installed at a primary school in York as part of a £20,000 development.

According to the Press, Hempland School, in Heworth, York, has received the cash from the council's Safer Routes to School budget, much to the delight of pupils and staff.

Alongside the security bollards, which will be deployed at a park at the back of the school, dropped kerbs and improved signage will also be developed to make paths to the school safer for children and parents.

"Parents, pupils and the school have been keen to see these improvements made to improve safety for those who travel to school this way," Heworth's Liberal Democrat councillor Nigel Ayre told the newspaper.

"These improvements should ensure drivers are warned and the new dropped kerbs will hopefully encourage pupils to cross the road at the safest point," he added.

Earlier this months plans to erect security fencing at a school in Kendal were also approved.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800161079-ADNFCR
