Automatic Swing and Sliding Gates

Gates and Gate Automation

We manufacture a wide range of automated gates with bespoke options including size, vehicular or pedestrian operation, what type of opening they provide and single or double leaf.

Our gates, designed to match each fence style we offer, are manufactured in Britain from the highest quality steel and timber and supplied with our 25 year guarantee against rust, rot, insect attack, and manufacturing defects. An additional 25 month guarantee is offered with automated products. All our gates incorporate security features designed to deter forced entry, vandalism, removal of the gate, and unauthorised access to the site.

Our gates are designed with security in mind and commonly supplied with reversed top hinges, concealed fixings, and shear nuts, and can be customised with various additions including shrouds and daisy shrouds, protection plates, and access control devices to provide safe, reliable, and secure entry solutions.

Gates are essential in making sure there are no weak points around the perimeter, welcoming and deterring people to the site, improving the flow of traffic and pedestrians, and providing safe entrances and exits for both.

Gate Operation

We manufacture gates that function with different opening options:

- Manual gates – proven, simple and cost effective – the most common type of gate for pedestrian and vehicle access.

- Automated swing gates - controlled by concealed underground operators, hydraulic rams or concealed in stiles. Suitable for commercial and residential applications.

- Tracked sliding gates – automated gates that run along a track with wheels at the base of the gate.

- Cantilever sliding gates – counterbalanced automated gates that do not require a track to run along the opening.

- Bi-folding speed gates – trackless gates comprising of a unique drive mechanism designed for applications where speed is essential.

Automatic gate safety requirements

Automatic gate safety requirements are crucial considerations for property owners and decision makers seeking to install or maintain electric gates. These guidelines outline the necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of automatic gates, protecting both users and property from potential hazards.

Installation of automatic gates must adhere to stringent safety standards established by regulatory bodies and industry best practices. Key requirements include the installation of safety sensors and reversing mechanisms to detect obstacles and prevent entrapment. Additionally, gates should incorporate manual override systems to allow for emergency operation in the event of power failure or malfunction.

Regular maintenance is essential to uphold automatic gate safety requirements. Property owners should schedule routine inspections and servicing by qualified technicians to assess the condition of safety features, identify potential issues, and address any necessary repairs or adjustments. By proactively maintaining automatic gates, property owners can ensure continued compliance with safety regulations and minimise the risk of accidents or injuries.

How do automatic gate sensors work?

Automatic gate sensors work by detecting the presence of objects or obstacles in the gate's path and triggering the gate to stop, reverse, or remain open to prevent collisions or accidents. There are several types of sensors commonly used in automatic gates including photoelectric sensors, induction loop sensors, pressure sensors, and motion sensors. Our gates use a combination of sensors to ensure safety – these can be discussed when you order.

How often should electric gates be serviced?

The frequency of servicing for electric gates depends on several factors, including the type of gate, its usage, environmental conditions, and manufacturer recommendations. However, as a general guideline, electric gates should be serviced at least once a year by a qualified engineer. Commercial properties are legally obligated to ensure that any gates on their premises undergo annual maintenance. Jacksons carries out all servicing by our own registered automation technicians.

What are the UK automatic gate regulations?
