Metal gates to stop vandals welcomed by mum

Metal gates to stop vandals welcomed by mum
A mum from Maryport, Cumbria, has welcomed plans to install metal gates at an alley near her house in order to keep away yobs.

According to the Times & Star, Julie Messenger has been plagued by vandals, who regularly meet up in the alley which runs down the side of her home, for years.

However, although steel gates were recommended by several agencies that had been consulted, lack of money had meant they could not be installed.

But inspector Joe Murray of Cumbria police has managed to secure funding for the gates and has submitted a planning application for the security measure with Allerdale Council.

Mrs Messenger told the newspaper: "I am over the moon. I feel as though a weight has been lifted."

Inspector Murray told the newspaper that vandalism and noise had been compounded by dog fouling.

"I hope the gates will finally solve the problem," he said.

Recently, security fencing was put up as part of a project to stop anti-social behaviour in Ellesmere Port.

The £107,000 project will see fencing put up around 50 apartments in the town to stop youths gathering.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800468692-ADNFCR
