Police in Oxford are urging residents to ensure they take necessary precautions, such as ensuring their metal gates are closed, after a series of burglaries in two of the city's areas.

According to the Oxford Mail, homeowners in the Summertown and Jericho areas have suffered a spate of robberies that have seen computers, iPods and cash taken.

Police think the burglaries are likely to be linked.

"All the burglaries have been committed during the day, between the hours of 8am and 8pm while the occupants have been at work. In some of the incidents, thieves have taken advantage of insecure windows or doors," police constable Darren Pomroy told the newspaper.

Residences in Juxon Street, Banbury Road and St Bernard's Road have been particularly targeted, with similar items taken from each property.

Mr Pomroy said residents should step up their security to guard against further incidents.

"I would encourage everyone to make sure that they lock their windows, doors, and garden gates and consider installing rear security lights," he said.
