A man who got stuck on security fencing at a Hartlepool industrial estate found the police waiting to talk to him when he was rescued down.

Firefighters were called to Caserbourne Road, in Longhill, and found the man dangling six feet from the ground, the Hartlepool Mail reports.

Officers said the man had climbed up the fencing but had caught his foot at the top. He had managed to retrieve his mobile phone and call for help.

"He got his foot caught and was hanging upside down. It must have been about six feet up," watch manager Andy Robinson of Stranton Fire Station told the newspaper.

"He called fire control himself, as fortunately he had a mobile phone in his pocket."

Recently, prisoners in the Category C Acklington Prison, in Northumberland, were foiled in their attempt to bring contraband inside. An accomplice attempted to throw over a rucksack packed with drugs and mobile phones but it was caught in the site's security fencing.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800436197-ADNFCR
