Metal gates in Denbighshire targeted by thieves
Scrap metal thieves in Denbighshire have been targeting garden gates as a recent wave hits Rhyl and Rhuddlan.
Over April 10th and 11th residents reported that their entrance gates had been removed in the early hours of the morning as the valuable scrap crime continues to rage across the country.
North Wales Police is now advising homeowners to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The UK has been plagued by scrap metal thieves with some councils in the north-east introducing a scheme to crackdown on the criminal activity.
Under the new regulation, anyone looking to cash in on the metal will need to have identification and also sign up to being a validated merchant or no money will be given out.
Inspector Julie Sheard said: "With an increase in the commodity price of metals due to increased demand and shortage of supply criminals are stealing metal items which they then sell on."
