Security fencing to go up at Strawberry Fair festival

Security fencing to go up at Strawberry Fair festival
Security fencing will go up at the Strawberry Fair festival which will see "community" policing strategies deployed to ensure that the event goes ahead as planned.

The perimeter fence at the largest free festival in Cambridge is just one of the measures in place that was missing from last year's proposed event, which was eventually cancelled after police appeals, reported the BBC.

To ensure that there is no repeat of this, Cambridgeshire constabulary and the fair's organising committee have been working together closely in planning the event.

Chief inspector Dave Sargent, who is in charge of the policing operation, said that in addition to the fencing, local officers will be on hand to ensure public safety is maintained.

He told the news provider: "There will be practical measures in place to prevent the fair being spoiled by alcohol or drug misuse and criminal and anti-social behaviour."

The event will include medieval activities, juggling and an acoustic tent and cabaret.

In a similar story, a carnival in Tottenham is considering adding extra security fencing to ensure that the event goes ahead as planned after the local police force expressed concern about the safety of the festival.
