A play area in Bishop Stortford is to get a £50,000 makeover after donations by residents, the council and local businesses raised £40,000.

The project is seeking an extra £10,000 of investment to complete the work which will see improved equipment and play area fencing. A number of similar schemes have already been granted across the county.

In Buckingham, children attended the opening of a play area which had gone under a £70,000 renovation which was heralded as a "fantastic facility for local children".

Bishop Stortford's Sworder's Field play area will benefit from a project undertaken by Stortford’s Brazier Trust, spearheaded by councillor Janice Fowler.

She told the Herts and Essex Observer: "Being a mum, it's an area I have knowledge of as I go down [to that playground] a lot. A lot of children live in flats and their parents don't necessarily have the money for play equipment. That area is free to use, easy to get to and accessible by train, bus or on foot."
