A disgruntled resident in Bissoe, Cornwall, has condemned acoustic fencing around a popular public footpath and has said they have made the site look like a "prisoner of war camp".
The Mineral Tramway, near to Bissoe, attracts hundreds of walkers, cyclists and horse-riders every year as people enjoy the breathtaking sights.
However, the Environment Agency (EA) launched a £30,000 scheme to fence off part of the site in a bid to protect moss. Bosses at the organisation also said the move was in the best interests of health and safety.
The move outraged local residents including Alan Maxted who believes that the fences make the footpath look like "Stalag 15", a prisoner of war camp used by the Nazis during World War II.
Mr Maxted told This Is Cornwall: "They [the EA] could have done all sorts of things in there like planting wild fruit trees or putting in an ornamental pond. They have fenced it off like Stalag 15 and said, 'thou shalt not enjoy'."
