Security bollards have been installed to stop motorists using a pavement in Reading, to the delight of residents.
Campaigners have been calling for bollards to be installed in Erleigh Road after spotting pedestrians forced to dive out of the way of cars, getreading.co.uk reports.
"The crossing has been a problem for some time because it has a steep bump in the middle and it was almost impossible to get a wheelchair or pushchair over it," Peter Kayes, chair of the Redlands and University Area Neighbourhood Action Group (appropriately titled NAG), told the news provider.
A drop kerb was deployed to make crossing easier but this simply led to motorists driving on the kerb and on the pavement, he explained.
The five bollards have now been installed to prevent drivers from mounting the pavements.
"There were some extremely dangerous manoeuvres," Kayes told the news provider. "The council officers saw some of them and were horrified."
Recently, it was announced that security bollards will be part of a £120,000 upgrade in Spalding, Lincolnshire.
