Boston's Pilgrim Hospital is to charge its workers up to £20 a month to park within the grounds of the facility.
According to the Boston Standard, the initiative is being introduced by the United Lincolnshire NHS Trust as part of a new transport plan and will see workers being charged between £3.83 and £20 depending on pay and whether they are full-time or part-time.
However, the newspaper revealed that some workers are worried that a number of wage freezes and the new charges could seriously impact the income of the average employee passing through the car park barriers.
An anonymous letter to The Standard stated: "With a wage freeze, inflation and a recession where work is hard to find I consider it insensitive of the trust to impose these fees on their workers at a time when wages are already hard stretched."
In 2010, consumer group Which? revealed the best and worst hospital car parks with the Royal Derby health facility being found to be the most complained about centre.
