A councillor wants security fencing to be installed on top of a high rise car park after a Barnoldswick man fell to his death.
Police reported that a 63-year-old man jumped from the Pendle Rise facility on Saturday (January 14th) on what has been dubbed a "suicide hotspot".
The man is the eighth person to fall off the car park in ten years and now councillors want more measures to be taken to prevent another death from happening.
Cllr Eileen Ansar has called on the owners to install a tall mesh security fence after Pendle Council put aside £40,000 from its capital programme to enforce the scheme before the centre went into administration in November 2010.
She told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It is devastating to hear that another person has died after falling off the car park. There is no doubt in my mind that if the fencing had been installed 12 to 18 months ago, as originally planned, then this death and maybe one or two more could have been prevented."
All car parks in the town are owned by Pendle Council and members are being urged to solve this problem.
