A sports club in Manchester plagued by vandals has erected security fencing as part of a raft of measures to deter them.

Poynton Sports Club, which hosts cricket, tennis, rugby and football matches, has been hit by people intent on causing trouble, taking drugs and drinking underage, the Manchester Evening News reported.

The club is calling police between three and four times a week about the youngsters who hang around on the grounds.

Thanks, though, to a range of new measures, the problems of the past should be put to bed.

"We are now developing and delivering an action plan to deal with these issues with the assistance of the local police, which include improved fencing, security patrols to the main gate and security presence around the clubhouse," Kevin Bell, the club's chairman, told the newspaper.

"The trouble is not caused by members or visitors to the clubhouse, or through drinks supplied by the club," he added.

Recently, security fencing at an allotment in Bristol was beefed up after someone smashed into the site in a vehicle, ripping up plots of land.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800270537-ADNFCR
