People living in a Nottingham town have come together to help fund security fencing to curb anti-social behaviour.

The Nuthall residents are set to pay £50 each to help fund the fence, that will help keep youths out of their gardens, the Eastwood Advertiser reports.

Those living in Assarts Road have suffered years of nuisance behaviour, with youths wrecking their gardens and setting their hedges on fire. They have caused thousands of pounds in damage.

All 29 residents in the road, who are mostly pensioners, have agreed to contribute to the cost of the security fencing.

Nuthall Parish Council surveyed residents proposing the fencing payment plan, and all residents agreed to it.

Parish council clerk Sue Stack told the newspaper: "The survey proved people had been having a lot of trouble.

"There are a lot of elderly people on the road and people have had thousands of pounds worth of damage done. They have put up with the trouble for a long time."

Recently, security fencing was put up around allotments in Heckwondwike, West Yorkshire, to improve security.
