Four contractors are lining up bids to take over the construction of Gary Neville's new ten-storey hotel near to Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United and England defender is looking to build a 138-bed hotel which will be complete with a five-a-side football pitch on the roof. Neville was recently granted planning permission for the development despite continued objections from the club who have said that the hotel will impact on the "holistic image" surrounding Old Trafford. Officials at MUFC also stated that it would be detrimental to the "strategic plan" that the club has for the area near to the ground.

However, since the plans were given the go-ahead a number of contractors have expressed their interest in getting on board with the development that could provide thousands of Man United fans with accommodation for years to come. The Construction Enquirer reports construction information specialist Glenigan revealed that the companies putting their name forward for consideration include BAM, McLaren Construction, Galliford Try and Bowmer & Kirkland.

Neville's hotel will encompass a 16m by 12m pitch which will be available to both residents and non-residents, providing the perfect pre-match entertainment for adults and youngsters alike. The playing surface will be covered by a retractable roof, meaning that games can take place in all forms of weather, whether it be glorious sunshine or the typical Manchester weather of torrential downpours.

Once a contractor is selected for the job construction is expected to get underway in January 2013 with a completion date earmarked for the beginning of the 2014/15 season, tying in with another campaign in the Premier League for Manchester United.

Neville retired from professional football in 2010 and is using the money from his testimonial against Juventus to fund the project. During his career with the Red Devils he racked up 400 appearances as well as collecting 85 England caps but described his international career as "a massive waste of time" in his autobiography.
