Manchester City FC's bold plans to build a state-of-the-art training complex have moved a step closer after a construction company has been allegedly chosen to take on the project.

According to reports by the Construction Enquirer, BAM has been picked by the Premier League club to build their new training and youth facilities that are set to rival some of the best in the world. The newly crowned champions are currently readying themselves for the defence of their title, which begins on August 19th after the traditional curtain-raiser match against Chelsea in the Community Shield, but the new development is a signal of City looking towards the future and building on their newfound success for years to come.

The facility will be situated in close proximity to the club's Etihad Stadium and a source close to the news provider has revealed that BAM beat off a host of competitors including Carillion, Laing O'Rourke and Bowmer & Kirkland to secure the £100 million contract. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, the source told the Construction Enquirer that their understanding was that BAM has been successful in their application.

The Blues were crowned Premier League champions on the final day of the season in May in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Queen's Park Rangers and now the club are looking to build for the future. After recently being granted Category One academy status under the new Elite Performance Player Plan (EPPP), City are aiming to create a successful legacy and the new training facility is integral to these developments.

Full details of the complex include a home for over 400 young players to learn and train alongside the senior members of the squad, building a strong relationship between the first team and development side.

There will be a new 7,000-seater stadium used for youth matches, one half size and 11 full size youth pitches as well as four full size first team pitches. Plans also include room for sleeping accommodation for up 40 youth players, helping them study and train in a safe environment.
