The long-awaited opening of Trinity Leeds shopping centre is a step nearer after the company behind the development set a date for when the facility will be available to access for the public.

Land Securities has stated that the shopping centre will be open on March 21st 2013, coinciding with the first day of spring. The development is situated right in the heart of the west Yorkshire city and will give it a new major retail facility all under one roof at the bottom of its main shopping street, Briggate. Officials noted that Trinity Leeds is expected to see 200,000 people attend the opening event, when it will be welcomed in with a "fanfare of entertainment".

The company behind the construction of the centre believe that it will help Leeds overtake Manchester as one of the best places to go city centre shopping in the north of England. Leeds Trinity is expected to become one of the UK's biggest and busiest retail facilities with officials predicting a 23 million footfall over the first 12 months of its lifespan. It is set to be a major landmark for the Yorkshire city as many well renowned companies are setting up shop in Leeds.

Retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Superdry, Hollister and Mango have already stated that they are taking up outlets within the new development. Major stores such as Primark, Topshop, Marks & Spencer and Next have also revealed that they will be creating flagship stores within the shopping centre. Leeds will also be home to a number of unique entertainment complexes outside of London, including boutique cinema chain Everyman while it will also be subject to two rooftop restaurants from D&D London which holds outlets in Paris, New York, Copenhagen and Tokyo.

Andrew Dudley, project management director for Trinity Leeds said: "We're very excited to be announcing the opening date for Trinity six months from opening and look forward to welcoming the people of Leeds to their new shopping destination in the heart of the city."
