New security bollards are to be among the new features unveiled in east London today (August 31st) as a £211 million extension to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) opens.
Four new stations, including one at Stratford International train station, will be launched giving commuters more travel options between the Olympic site and Canning Town.
The move forms part of a wider £500 million extension of the DLR which will help capacity increase by 50 per cent, reports the BBC.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson told the news provider that the changes will have a great number of benefits during the 2012 Games.
"This work will be of permanent benefit for Londoners and all those travelling in the capital from here on in," he explained.
"It's fantastic news and another example of London's lasting legacy of playing host to such a momentous event."
Westfield Stratford City shopping centre will also open next month (September 13th).
