As Halloween approaches, it seems even security fencing isn't immune to ghostly goings-on, with one of Lancashire's most haunted houses preparing to open its doors to ghost hunters.
Psychics and mediums will spend a series of nights in Turton Tower throughout November and December, and some of the stories surrounding the stately home are enough to chill even the hardiest of hearts.
"Once, a woman on a tour was pushed in the face, and a lot of people say they have seen a lady on the front lawn," Judith Seery of Turton Tower told the Bolton News.
She added: "Security guards who patrol the site at night say they have been over to speak to a woman standing against a fence, but as they have got closer, she disappears."
Haunted security fencing notwithstanding, the team of ghost-seekers will stay in the manor between midnight and 4am with only torches to light their way.
The Grade I Listed Building was built in the late Middle Ages and served as a home to the lords of the Manor of Turton for several centuries, before undergoing restorations when inventor James Kay acquired it in 1844.
