There were many celebrations in Saughton, Edinburgh, as the security fencing was finally removed from a renovated play area.

The Scottish area's playground was opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and signalled the end of a two-year campaign to restore the site back to its former glory.

It was completed thanks to funding from Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, with additional money coming from the City of Edinburgh council’s parks and Greenspace department, WREN and Biffaward.

Children were treated to spring stories read out by a local storyteller in the Winter Gardens part of the park. It is another play area success story as many other sites across the country have been regenerated in the past couple of months.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, environment convener, said: "I'm delighted to see this project come to fruition and it shows what can be achieved when the council works in partnership with the community."
