A play area in Beaumaris will no longer see the sight of security fencing going up around it, as its future was secured for the next century.

Holyhead and Anglesey Mail reported that the playground on Thomas Close in Beaumaris is to be given special status as part of the Queen's Jubilee and will join a host of other play areas that will be renamed and given 99 years of protected status.

Nigel Black, chairman of the Thomas Close Play Area Association, told the source: "It's an area where the children of the town have played since the 1950s; members of my committee can remember playing there as children, the children today are doing the same, and now generations of children will play there in future."

The play area will now be renamed Queen Elizabeth II at Thomas Close and will hold a party in June to signal the unveiling.

Councils were asked to nominate parks in their towns to receive the special protection programme.
