Gainsborough Trinity FC have unveiled ambitious plans for a brand new community stadium which will provide a major boost for not only the football club, but the town itself, the Lincolnshire Echo reports.
The Blue Square North side is looking to build a 4,000-seater stadium that will be used as a multi-sports arena as well as providing a retail complex that the public will have access to seven days a week. The development, due to be built in The Little Belt part of the town, will mean that Gainsborough Trinity have the best sporting venue in the area and shows a real signal of intent in terms of the club's ambitions and will it mean they have a stadium that is ready to meet the criteria of League Two should the side progress up the leagues.
Officials have stated that the 9.4-acre development will have a host of amenities to promote sport within the Gainsborough area, including a synthetic training pitch opposite the stadium's premises.
This will be used by rugby, hockey, basketball and netball sides which wish to use the facilities. However, the main focus will be on helping Trinity to rise through the leagues and bringing league football to Gainsborough.
Andy Booth, of planning consultants Global Limited, told the source: "This will surely be the best sports facility in Gainsborough. It will be as state-of-the-art as it can be.
"It is extremely exciting for the local community because it offers so much to so many people. Schools will be using the facilities as well as other general sportsmen and women. It is a substantial and significant project."
Officials are aiming for the stadium to be completed in time for Trinity to kick off their 2013/14 campaign. The club also revealed that there will be a number of services that will be available to the public and the team's players such as a physiotherapy centre, office space, a club shop, crèche facilities as well as numerous retail opportunities for businesses around Gainsborough.
The team enjoyed a successful campaign in the past season, finishing fourth in the league and narrowly missed out on promotion after losing the play-off final to Nuneaton Town.
