The high level of Glasgow Central Station is to have gate automation installed in order to complete plans to make train travel in the city more secure.
According to Rail.co, automatic ticket gates have already been put in place at Charing Cross, Argyle Street, Anderston and Glasgow Central low level, allowing the new installation to close a "ring of steel" around the city's stations.
It is believed that the new barriers will improve ticketless travel figures and revenue for the rail operators and reduce the amount of antisocial behaviour at the stations.
Working gates will be unveiled at the end of the month.
Steve Montgomery, managing director at ScotRail, said: "It is honest, fare-paying passengers who bear the burden in lost investment in Scotland's railway. Ticket gates, which are part of out franchise agreement, are also proven to ... improve station security."
The Lynn News recently reported that gate automation could also be required at Gone Crabbing, a clothes shop in Norfolk, after it opened to the public.
