A Hampshire town is set to see an increase in people playing tennis after a new club was opened.
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) injected £60,500 of funding into the Wickham community sports club on top of a £52,900 grant from the area's parish council in a bid to promote the game within the area.
Wickham's new club is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including tennis court fencing, floodlighting and a renovated playing surface at the previously derelict recreation ground.
Nick Humby, LTA finance director, said: "Wickham Community Tennis Club is a wonderful example of what can be achieved with the partnership of an enthusiastic and committed volunteer club committee a supportive and engaged local authority and the encouragement and funding from the LTA."
It follows a decision by the council in Norfolk to also renovate courts within the North Walsham War Memorial Park to boost the sport's popularity in the community with summer approaching.
