New metal railings will be required in Harlow following the theft of fencing in the area.
Two footbridges going over the River Stort are now without fencing because of the theft, which also included three drain covers in the last week.
The thefts are thought to be because of the rising price in metal, making them ideal to trade in for money, the Harlow Star reports.
Carol Howorth, of Partridge Court, told the news provider that the theft of fencing and drain covers are dangerous for the local area.
"Huge holes are left in the road which someone could fall down and really hurt themselves," she explained.
"Just imagine if it was one of the children from the school."
Meanwhile, metal railings received mixed reviews in Hereford last month after being placed around the local cathedral.
Pointed fencing was put up as part of a £5.6 million restoration programme.
