Following a series of break-ins at an allotment in Wokingham, the town council is proposing to install higher security fencing and an access gate to prevent any more incidents happening.
According to getwokingham.co.uk, thieves have been targeting the site, at Latimer Road, in search of tools and other gardening equipment.
The authority, which owns the land, has made previous attempts to deter thieves – by using anti-climb paint, erecting a fence to separate the plot from an adjacent play area, and growing bramble bushes.
But councillors are not happy with the success of some of these measures, with Paul Smith, the amenities officer at the authority, saying anti-climb paint should not be applied so close to a playground.
Turning instead to other security measures, the council will now consider implementing the higher security fencing at a meeting next Tuesday (March 8th).
Mr Smith told the news provider: "We are asking the committee to discuss the idea of increasing the size of the fence and gate, which could see another fence installed behind the one separating the allotment and the playground."
Recently, businesses in Soughton, Flintshire were urged by police to review their security fencing following several oil thefts in the area.
