Police in Hampshire have urged residents to step up their security in the wake of a spate of burglaries.
According to the Salisbury Journal, there have been seven instances of non-dwelling burglaries in the Godshill, Linford and Blashford areas of Fordingbridge since October 16th.
Thieves have targeted sheds, garages, a stable and a building under construction.
Police constable Russell Skinner asked residents to be on their guard and to ensure their non-dwelling buildings are fully secured.
"In a couple of these incidents the thieves have forced the locks on shed doors and so we would recommend investing in a closed shackle padlock, to the best quality you can afford, which cannot be removed with bolt cutters," PC Skinner told the newspaper.
Other steps that can be taken to protect outbuildings include keeping fencing in good repair, considering security lighting and ensuring strong locks are fitted to buildings.
Recently, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) urged homeowners to take steps to protect their properties this winter.
The BSIA said that the risk of burglary increases during the colder months because of longer hours of darkness.
