Kensington Palace has re-opened to the public following a £12 million makeover to restore it back to its former glory.
As part of the regeneration work the iron railings that surrounded the palace have been replaced by the only original 'Golden Gates' as designers have opened out the ground of the regal residence.
Chest-high metal railings that do not detract from the beauty of the palace will now stretch around the perimeter of the site. The historical palace, which was built in 1760 and is the birthplace and childhood home to Queen Victoria, has been updated in the run-up to the Diamond Jubilee.
Renovations have also included a special exhibition on Queen Victoria as well as a showcase of the dresses worn by Princess Diana.
Curator Deirdre Murphy told the Daily Mail: "We want people to come away realising she was not just a grumpy old lady but a woman of strong opinions who liked to have fun."
