Parking barriers may be required in a Lancashire car park after a large group of travellers broke in and pitched up last week.

Around 40 different caravans are now situated at the Greenfield Community Centre in Mill Hill after setting up camp on Wednesday (July 13th).

Having been asked to leave the site on the Saturday, they have now done so only to move to a nearby car park, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

A statement from Lancashire Police and Blackburn with Darwen Council, quoted by the news provider, said that both organisations are "working closely together" to address the concerns of local residents.

"Whilst taking into account the needs of the travellers, they were in fact occupying a site that provides recreational space for local residents and we are aware that due to the presence of the travellers some recreational activities planned had to be cancelled," it added.

Barriers were also installed in Savernake Forest last month to help prevent wandering travellers from accessing the site.
