A host of construction projects have already been undertaken and completed in Hull and now another development has been started by BAM Construction.

The firm will be working on the £8 million Boulevard Academy on the site of rugby league team Hull FC's former stadium, which is now empty after the team moved to share the KC Stadium with the city's football team.

It is the 14th major building project to be undertaken by BAM Construction since 1999, when it broke ground on the Virgin Cinema in the Kingswood area of the city, with a combined value of around £200 million for the projects it has taken on in Hull.

Since then it has worked on Hull University's student union Millennium Makeover, Hull College's Queens Garden Campus, Endeavour High School and the creation of Nuffield Hospital and a medical research facility at Castle Hill Hospital.

BAM regional director James Wimpenny said: "It is fantastic to maintain our record of averaging a major building project in Hull every year.

"From schools, colleges and universities to hospitals, cinemas and shopping destinations, BAM has created buildings that touch the lives of Hull's residents.

"We are very much looking forward to progressing Boulevard Academy this year. It is fitting that this project will involve the history and future of the city, creating a free school on the site of Hull FC's former stadium."

The contractor has also helped to build a 40-cell custody suite and divisional headquarters for Humberside Police and began a major redevelopment of Hull University's Brynmor Jones Library.

Lend Lease is another construction firm that is very active in the UK at the moment and Hull is set to be the venue for a student accommodation project.

The company is set to design and construct up to 40,000 housing units for undergraduates and postgraduates across 70 different locations in England and Scotland, with Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Hull all expected to form part of the process.
