Mansfield Town FC have announced that they have completed an expansion project of their One Call Stadium.
The Conference Premier side have taken the capacity of their current home to 8,186 following the addition of almost 300 extra seats. It is the second extension development in the space of three months for the Nottinghamshire club who were given the go-ahead to add over 1,000 seats for the FA Cup Third Round tie against Premier League giants Liverpool. The Safety Advisory Group (SAG) was satisfied that the club was able to handle larger crowds and gave approval for the expansion to take place.
Tina Broughton, joint operations director, said: "SAG were very pleased with the way we handled a full house during a massive tie [the Liverpool cup match] for the club. We are pleased that SAG have recognised this and to have our capacity increased again is a positive step forward for the club."
Mansfield's previously named Field Mill home has fluctuated in capacity over the past few years following the club's relegation from the Football League to the Conference Premier. Between 2007 and 2008 the size of the attendance differed a lot due to varying levels of success on the pitch and the occasional cup tie against Premier League opponents.
January 2008 saw the side take on then top flight team Middlesbrough which saw Field Mill's capacity grow to 7,300. However, the club's continuous seasons in the Conference Premier has meant that attendances have lessened and now command an average attendance of 2,377.
On the pitch, however, the team are performing well sitting in sixth position, just three points outside of the play-off places. The side have been on a goalscoring spree of late, crushing Dartford 5-0 at home on February 2nd following it up with the 8-1 destruction of Barrow a week later.
It was the second time in two seasons where Mansfield have gone goal crazy against Barrow as they beat the north-west side 7-0 in the 2011/12 campaign.
