A massive tree destroyed a family's carport after falling during strong winds in Cheltenham.
The Herbert family had a lucky escape when the 70ft beech tree came crashing down on the storage facility next to their home. Elsewhere, a 72-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital with head injuries after being hit by wooden and metal security fencing.
Dad Martin told This Is Gloucestershire: "My parents were round to pick up the kids and were just getting them ready when they heard this almighty crash. We had a lucky escape because if it had fallen a few yards either side it would have smashed into the house. In that respect, it could have been a lot worse and we have to be thankful."
Storms continue to batter the UK with the Met Office issuing a 'yellow warning' for heavy rain across the country with some localised flooding mainly north of the border as well as strong winds hitting southern parts.
