Metal gates will be put up at the Rickmansworth Aquadrome to help restrict traffic.

News of the development has been met with support and enthusiasm from the lake's sailing clubs, reported the Watford Observer.

At present there are two gates to control entry into the Aquadrome.

The main gate shuts in the evening but the "member's gate" enables access to the main part of the lake at any time.

This has caused some problems. Officers from Three Rivers District Council have complained that people have been driving recklessly in the lake.

Officers have also accused drivers of not obeying the 10mph speed limit.

Elaine Coombs, from Colne Valley Special Sailors, told the newspaper: "We are disabled sailors and we are sure that the council will ensure we have the best possible access for our sailors and our volunteers."

A report to the council's executive committee will recommend a change to the system which will see the lock changed to an electronic fob.

New security bollards have been erected as part of the redevelopment of a towpath in Bishop's Stortford.
